Hailing from a family of musicians, Sivaramakrishna Rao was initiated into music at a very tender age by his father Sri.B.Sudarsana Rao.He took up sitar as a child of 7 under the guidance of Late Pandit Shri. Subba Rao, a reputed sitar and Rudra Veena Vidwan and later on became the disciple of the illustrious and veteran sitarist, late Ustad Ahmed Hussain Khan, who was a flag bearer of the famous Mian Achpal Gharana which has produced some eminent and rare Gems, who set high standards in traditional Hindustani music. This particular ancient Gharana which Siva belongs, has a great lineage of masters like Ustad Bande Ali khan (Beenkar of Indore), Ustad Rahmath Khan Sahib of Dharwar, Ustad Habib Khan Sahib of Gudyani who are exponents of the special techniques of Razhakhani Maseetkhani and senibaj.
As an artist, Sivaramakrishna possesses an uncanny sense of realization of space and time in the construction and knowledge of rhythm. At a very young age ,he performed with his brothers and was conferred the title ‘Laya Brahma’ awarded by the Music College of Tirupathi . He has accompanied Shree. Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna in the Spirit of Freedom Concerts for National Integration conducted by the BCIC. His hard work , determination and dedication has won him many accolades and he was awarded ‘Child Prodigy of the Year’ in 1990 by the Governer of Tamilnadu instituted by the Madras Telugu Academy as a ‘Ugadi Puraskar’ for excellence.
Sivaramakrishna stunned audience everywhere with his skill in handling the instrument at the very young age of 9, won the admiration of the former Prime Minister of India Sri .P.V. Narasimha Rao. Sivaramakrishna's improvisation in playing brings out a perfect combination of ‘Gayaki’ and ‘Tantrikari Angs’, perhaps he is the only Sitarist who can play both Hindusthani & Carnatic music in Sitar.
As a performer, he has given solo performances, jugalbandhi & fusion concerts with various artists all over India and abroad. Sivaramakrishna has performed internationally and has participated in numerous music festivals of I.C.C.R., and the prestigious "Festival of India" programs. He has widely travelled all over the world, including Singapore, Malaysia,UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, South Africa,Kuwait, Srilanka and Mauritius.
